Summary

The MEDIAI project addresses the critical need to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills into vocational education and training (VET) curricula for multimedia professions. The project is led by TPS Chemnitz (Germany) in collaboration with UNLAB (Italy), aiming to equip VET educators, multimedia professionals, and students with essential competencies to meet the evolving AI-driven demands of the job market.

Specific objectives

  1. To develop and integrate AI-driven training modules in multimedia VET programs.
  2. To create an adaptable and scalable AI Multimedia VET Toolkit.
  3. To foster collaboration between educators and multimedia professionals through structured dialogues.
  4. To produce comprehensive research analyzing AI’s role in transforming multimedia professions.

Target groups

DIRECT:

  • VET Trainers and Educators: Responsible for designing and delivering multimedia training, benefiting from modernized curricula and new teaching tools.
  • Multimedia Professionals: Graphic designers, video editors, web developers, and social media marketers, who will gain practical AI integration skills.

INDIRECT:

  • VET Students: Individuals enrolled in multimedia vocational training who will acquire relevant, market-ready AI skills.
  • VET Institutions Across Europe: Institutions seeking to update and enhance their curricula with cutting-edge AI resources.
  • Employers in the Multimedia Sector: Companies needing employees proficient in AI-driven multimedia tools.

Activities

The project comprises five key activities:

  1. Project Management: Structured management, monitoring, and coordination to ensure smooth implementation.
  2. Research and Comparative Analysis: Surveys and interviews with educators and multimedia professionals to identify current AI skills gaps.
  3. AI Multimedia Toolkit Development: Creating a digital toolkit with manuals and practical AI tools tailored for multimedia professions.
  4. Short Staff Workshop: A 3-day practical training event in Perugia, Italy, bringing together German educators and Italian multimedia professionals to validate and refine the toolkit.
  5. Final Conference and Dissemination: A closing event in Chemnitz, Germany, showcasing project results to VET trainers, multimedia experts, and policymakers, promoting wider adoption and scaling.

“Online Repository”:

1. “RESEARCH AND COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS” ACTIVITY

As part of its Research and Comparative Analysis activity, the Italian partner, UNLAB, developed and administered an online questionnaire to multimedia professionals. The aim was to analyze the integration of artificial intelligence into creative workflows, the main difficulties encountered, and emerging training needs. The survey, conducted via Google Forms and addressed to a sample of professionals with experience in the sector, highlighted the widespread use of AI tools (over 90% of respondents use them regularly or occasionally), but also a significant gap between their use and established skills. Among the main critical issues identified were the cost of the tools, the lack of specific training, and uncertainties related to ethical issues and copyright. At the same time, the results show a strong demand for practical training courses, based on real-world workflows and concrete applications, rather than theoretical approaches. In parallel, the German partner TPS Chemnitz conducted a complementary analysis aimed at VET trainers, highlighting a high need for structured teaching materials, a strong technical aptitude, but a lack of institutional and infrastructural support for integrating AI into training curricula. The combined findings from the two countries formed the basis for the development of the MEDIAI AI Multimedia Toolkit, ensuring that the content produced meets real needs in both the professional and educational worlds.

2. AI MULTIMEDIA TOOLKIT

The development of the AI Multimedia Toolkit represented the operational heart of the project, translating research findings into a concrete, practical, and immediately usable tool. The Toolkit was jointly designed by partners TPS Chemnitz and UNLAB as a modular digital resource, designed to support both multimedia professionals and VET trainers in integrating artificial intelligence into their workflows and training programs. Unlike a theoretical manual, the Toolkit was developed following a strongly practice-oriented approach, organizing content around real-world tasks (such as content ideation, production, review, and analysis) and offering reusable examples, tools, and frameworks directly applicable to professional contexts. The work included selecting and explaining relevant AI tools, creating step-by-step guides, operational templates, and recommendations for integration into existing software (such as Adobe or Canva environments), with particular attention to affordability and sustainability of adoption. Furthermore, the Toolkit concretely addresses crucial issues such as quality, ethics, and copyright, providing practical guidelines and real-world scenarios to support the responsible use of AI. Also designed for training, it includes suggestions for workshops, exercises, and teaching structures, making it easily integrated into VET programs and professional development activities. The end result is a flexible, transferable, and scalable tool at the European level, available in multiple languages, and designed to concretely support the multimedia sector’s transition towards a conscious and effective use of artificial intelligence.

3. SHORT STAFF WORKSHOP

The MEDIAI project Short Staff Workshop took place in Perugia (Italy) from October 6 to 9, 2025, involving a total of 21 participants: 10 from Germany (primarily VET trainers) and 11 from Italy (multimedia professionals). The activity was organized as a 3-day international workshop, combining introductory sessions, practical exercises on the use of AI tools, and opportunities for discussion between education and industry. The workshop played a key role in validating the AI Multimedia Toolkit, thanks to the feedback collected from participants, and concluded with the administration of a final evaluation questionnaire and the issuing of certificates of participation.

4. FINAL CONFERENCE

The MEDIAI project Final Conference took place on January 27, 2026, in Chemnitz, Germany, at the TPS Chemnitz headquarters. It brought together 28 participants, including VET sector stakeholders, media and marketing professionals, representatives of business networks, and members of the Chemnitz Chamber of Commerce. The conference served as the project’s final dissemination event, presenting the results achieved, the AI Multimedia Toolkit, and the activities developed during the partnership. The program included presentations on the integration of artificial intelligence in vocational training, the use of AI in creative processes, and opportunities for networking and discussion between education, businesses, and industry professionals. The event also fostered shared reflection on the future prospects of AI in multimedia training and digital transformation.
